1. Reversal: This is one of my all time favorites.
It actually has one of my tag lines on the inside
cover of the DVD. A beautiful father/son love story
that changed my life. This story uses wrestling as
a backdrop and was nominated for a Dove Family Film
of the Year Award.
2. Ben-Hur: I didn’t see this movie until recently
and was deeply impressed. A great life changing story
I highly recommend.
3. The Incredibles: One of the best animated films
of all time.
4. The Passion of the Christ: This movie is one of
the all-time top grossing movies. It is brutal but
also life changing.
5. Simon Birch: If you haven’t seen this movie,
you have missed one of the all-time great family films.
6. Spiderman: I love this movie and the second in
the series, Spiderman 2. Read my review and then check
out the movie.
7. Smallville – Okay, I know this is a television
series, and the link will take you to seasons 1-4.
You don’t have to start off there, use the search
engine and get season 1 if you haven’t seen
it. Once you do, you will want to watch them all.
Possibly the best show on television and the DVD option
is superior to television.
8. To End All Wars: Staring Kiefer Sutherland this
is one of the great independent films ever made. It
moved and challenged me more than The Passion of the
Christ. A remarkable true story about the ability
of one man to change.
9. Glory: I loved this movie and believe it to be
the launching ground for Denzil Washington. If you
haven’t seen it you have missed a contemporary
classic.
10. Forest Gump: A true American Classic with Tom
Hanks. This multi award winner is a great film. I
have watched it numerous times and highly recommend
it.
1. Contemporary English Version The Learning Bible:
I love this Bible. It is so easy to read and is a
wonderful translation. Whenever asked for a Bible
from a new believer, or one just wanting to know more
about the Bible, this is the one I recommend.
2. Inside the Mind of Unchurched Harry and Mary by
Lee Strobel: If wanting to know how to share your
faith, this book is as good as any I have ever read.
If purchasing the book, contact me for the free study
guide to go along with it that I wrote.
3. The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel: This book
and others by Strobel do a great job at providing
evidence to convince you of Jesus Christ.
4. The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel: Another book
in the tradition of A Case for Christ.
5. The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoffer:
A Christian Classic and must read for anyone seriously
considering being a disciple of Jesus.
6. The Emotionally Healthy Church by Peter Scazzero:
This book is a great resource to look at where you
are at. How was Jesus fully human, yet, fully divine
and what can we learn from His Example?
7. Revolution by George Barna: This short, controversial
book is hailed as some as heresy, and by others as
prophetic. I highly recommend this book to better
understand The Virtual Pew. It is the book that helped
illustrate the direction that The Virtual Pew would
go.
8. Morning and Evening by C.H. Spurgeon: I love this
man of God. His teachings have taught me so much over
the years. A great devotional book.
9. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis: While
many consider this a children’s classic, it
is so much more than that. Read the books that inspired
the movie.
10: Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby: This book
provided direction when I was looking to the place
God wanted me to go. If not knowing where God is leading
you and you want the helps needed to help you experience
God, I can’t think of a book I would recommend
more.
1. Three by Ted Dekker: This is the book that almost
2 years ago got me to reading Ted Dekker, since then
I have read everything he has written. Check out my
interview with him on Hollywood Jesus.
2. Dark Star by Creston Mapes: Odds are you haven’t
heard of this book. Once you read it though, you will
be glad that I recommended it to you.
3. Full Tilt by Creston Mapes: Follow up to Dark
Star, a great novel that I highly recommend. Creston
Mapes has quickly become one of my favorite authors
right up there with Ted Dekker.
4. Selected Poems of Langston Hughes: Langston Hughes
became my favorite author when I was in college. He
still holds that honor and is known as the Great African
American Renaissance Author. Check out any of his
works to find out why.
5. Intensity by Dean Koontz: If you like thrillers,
this book won’t let you put it down. Koontz
has an undeserved reputation. He is actually a brilliant
and wonderful author. His stories have great redemptive
value.
6. Boo by Renee Gutteridge: Renee Gutteridge has
become one of mine and my wife. Her novels are first
class and hard to put down. If looking for a fun time
that will have some value, read any of Renee’s
books. I would recommend starting off with Boo.
7. Shoo Fly Pie by Tim Downs: If you like the CSI
television show you will enjoy the work of author
Tim Downs. Shoo Fly Pie was another one of those books
with great characters and hard to put down.
8. Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls: A classic
I try to read at least every 2 years. A great story
for families, and young boys.
9. Pinned by Alfred Martino: This book about wrestling
and growing up is a great read, especially for those
that love the sport of wrestling. It may be the best
wrestling novel ever written.
10. If I Had a Hammer by Hank Aaron: This is a great
read about a true American Hero. Baseballs Home Run
King Hank Aaron went through far more than many realize.
As Barry Bonds closes in on this record, read about
the man many consider one of the great sports figures
of all time.
1. Larry Norman In Another Land – Quite possibly
the best Album ever recorded. This album changed my
life and later on the music and ministry of Larry
Norman. I can’t recommend this one high enough.
2. The Essential Electric Light Orchestra –
This band changed this history of Rock ‘N’
Roll. I would recommend any of their CD’s but
this is a good one to start with.
3. Johnny Cash Live at Folsom Prison – This
record changed the course of Country Music, and music
in general. Some historians say the most important
album ever recorded.
4. Mark Heard Greatest Hits – Mark may very
well be the best artists you never heard of. He inspired
many like T-Bone Burnett, Bruce Cockburn and the list
goes on and on. I knew Mark and he was a great guy.
You won’t be disappointed in his music.
5. KJ-52 Collaborations – You can’t go
wrong with a KJ-52 CD if you like Hip Hop. Not only
does my son love his music, I do as well.
6. T-Bone The Last Street Precha – The best
Christian Hip Hop / Rap artist out there. If you saw
the movie The Fighting Temptations you know of this
mans skills. Great message, great rap.
7. Keith Green The Ultimate Collection – Truth
is, any collection without a Keith Green CD is not
complete. A reminder of what Christian Music used
to be all about.
8. U2 How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb – The
best U2 in a long time. I love this CD for all it
says and stands for. I can think of few people I respect
as much as Bono.
9. Cowboy Troy Loco Motive – Okay, say what
you will. I got into Cowboy Troy from first hearing
him with Big & Rich. I love his stuff, I have
listened to it so much that my son gets mad at me.
10. Huey Lewis & The News Greatest Hits and Videos
- Truth be told, I have loved Huey Lewis music for
a long time. I haven’t even purchased this one
yet for myself, but will be soon.
